I want to check in with you today about MARKETING!!
One of the biggest mistakes that I see entrepreneurs making that is keeping them from truly making the amount of money they deserve is that their marketing isn’t clear.
Let me explain…. if you are a coach, healer, or consultant, the #1 thing you MUST do before anything else is to get crystal clear on who you work with and what problems you are solving for them.
For example– there are really just a few specific things that I help ALL of my clients with: Clarity, Finding Clients, Sales, Marketing, Messaging, and Mindset. That’s it. All of the work I do with my clients falls into one of those categories.
Marketing can be a really scary word, but it really just means– what are you putting out there in the world to let people know about what you do?
If you are a life coach that helps people with transitions, you need to be more clear. WHAT transitions are they going through and what is the negative impact this transition is having on their life? Why focus on what’s negative? People people pay to make things better. If everything was gravy, there would be no reason for a coach, you feelin’ me?
If you’re a health coach that helps people improve their health, you’re not being specific enough. What exactly are your ideal people suffering with? Is it auto-immune disease? Being overweight? Digestive issues? Fatigue?
When you’re still living in the world of “helping anyone with anything” you’re keeping yourself stuck and broke. I know it may sound counter-intuitive, but the more narrow you get, the more clients you’ll have, because your ideal clients will know that YOU are the one for them.
If you popped your head into one of my mastermind retreats, you would see that there are a ton of similarities among my clients, and that’s because of the specificity of my messaging. I work exclusively with coaches, healers, and consultants. I don’t work in e-commerce, physical products, or brick and mortar businesses.
On top of that, I’m also attracting a specific personality type: travelers, people who want to make the world a better place though their business, spiritual (to an extent, not super woo woo usually!), rebellious and/or alternative lifestyles… this is who I attract through the way that I speak to my audience (hi, yes you!)
You may be wondering now how to make your marketing clear?
It’s actually easy but this is something that most people skip over and then wonder why things aren’t clicking….
Here’s what you need to do, this is homework that I give all of my mastermind clients in the first month of the program– get out and interview 10 people who you think fit your ideal client profile! Ask them what they are struggling with and what they desire.
Take meticulous notes using THEIR WORDS. For example, when someone tells me “I don’t know how to get clients” my notes would say, “Don’t know how to get clients” not lead generation, even though they mean the same thing. Why?
Because when you use YOUR lingo, instead of THEIR lingo, there’s a disconnect.
The smartest marketing and sales language will make your ideal clients feel like you are in their brain.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sent a newsletter and someone wrote back to me saying, “OMG I feel like you wrote that to ME!”
That’s when I know I’ve nailed it.
So, if you feel like you are struggling to have your marketing be clear and REALLY connect with your ideal clients, go out and do the homework that my clients do— find 10 people to talk to who fit what you think is your ideal client profile, and take amazing notes on their pains and desires. Then use that language in everything that you do.
